I’m doing the numbers for the best overlander 2018 and I’m checking in to see if I’m missing anything. This doesn’t include full size trucks and vans, btw. Bold is new for 2018 review
Land Cruiser
4Runner TRD off road with KDSS
Tacoma TRD off road (quad short)
Tacoma TRD PRO
LX570
GX460
G550 (wish I could get decent specs on the 2019...might be left off)
JLU 2.0/3.6/ED* EcoDiesel numbers are somewhat of a guess but many are confirmed
Grand Cherokee (what flavor? Just the Trailhawk 3.6/ED? Laredo?)
Cherokee trailhawk
Discovery TD6
Discovery sport (for some reason)
Range Rover TD6
Frontier Pro 4X
Armada SV
QX80
Colorado z71 (3.6/2.8)
Colorado ZR2 (3.6/2.8)
I could add in the 4runner TRD pro...i probably will just because but it will lose to the regular TRD in value so who knows.
Have I forgotten about any (legitimate) contenders here?

p.s. this is my favorite image from the series of pictures this person uploaded of their own free will and accord.

Not so much legitimate but more as a limited comparison simply because many punters don’t actually do much off-road touring but are still attracted to the idea:
Buick Regal Tourer;
RAV4;
XC90.
The other thing your list highlights is the lack of diversity in this size class in the US. The sheer choice of vehicles that is available to us in Oz is something that we take so much for granted...
It also reminds me that I had intended to apply your spreadsheets to the Oz fleet a couple of years back...and still haven’t done it. Got a link I can use to get hold of them again?

Tahoe/Burb Z71? Silverado? F150? F150 CCSB 2.7EB is a pretty popular option on the ExPo.

Tahoe burb/expedition might fit. Silverado f150 etc is a different list.

What about the new Rav4 adventure and the Crosstrek XV? For shits and giggles.

I’ve toyed with the idea of doing a softroad version. maybe in a few years when expensive gas has produce some viable choices.

You’ve got a point there. I think it would be fun to do an alternative overland article. Truthfully many people don’t need/want/chose the heavy off road version of that life.

It seems with a lift and a decent set of tyres, the new Disco isn’t as terrible? Maybe a nice angular steel winch bumper in the front could go a long way to making it not look like complete crap.

It’s no slouch that’s for sure, still damn ugly. However we grew up with boxy and it’s anything but boxy so there is some bias.
